Raddy Ovouka’s Injury Affected my Tactics - Samuel Boadu

Head coach of Accra Hearts of Oak has admitted that the injury which led to the substitution of left back, Raddy Ovouka was a big blow to his team.

Hearts of Oak hosted Morocco giants, Wydad Athletic Club in the second preliminary round first leg of the 2021/22 CAF Champions League at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Phobians needed goals to make the second leg a mere work for them at the Mohammed V Stadium Stadium in Rabat in the next one week. The Phobians were threatened in the first half by the Moroccan club but they managed to hold on to the resolve to soak the pressure from the North African club. Hearts of Oak later came into the game with some incursions into the opponent goal area but the goals will not come. Striker Kofi Kodzi and mercurial midfielder, Salifu Ibrahim could have given Hearts of Oak more goals but their chances went wide.

Hearts of Oak suffered a big blow when in the first half when Congo defender, Raddy Ovouka got injured. Unfortunately for Hearts of Oak, left back, Raddy Ovouka got injured and was replaced by William Denkyi on the 20th minutes. It was a big blow for the Phobians but Denkyi did not disappoint as he made a lot of runs on the left side of the attack. The injury to Raddy Ovouka has really affected head coach, Samuel Boadu.

Hearts of Oak Coach Samuel Boadu said in post-match: "Unfortunate we couldn't score more but we're ok with one goal. We need composure in opponent goal area to improve scoring. Will work on it. If we have good officiating like this in Morocco Hearts can win. "What we need is a Defensive MF. Salim Adams is not a Defensive Midfielder. His tackles show. Pulling out half-fit Ovouka affected my tactics. Even Nettey, Salifu played with injuries but we'll work on them." Samuel Boadu said.

Hearts of Oak will go into the second leg with a 1-0 advantage with the second leg coming coming up at the Mohammed V Stadium in Rabat in the next one week. Hearts of Oak must at least score in Rabat to increase their chances of qualifying for the group stage of the CAF Champions League. They have won the competition ones in the year 2000 and the Super Cup a year later. They defeated Ghana rivals, Asante Kotoko 8-7 on penalty shootouts to claim the CAF Confederation Cup in 2004.
