As reported earlier about goalkeepers competing for a national team call up, the list of defenders under consideration is making waves. These local defenders, could emerge from either a full back position or a center back position.
Christopher Nettey (Right-Back, Asante Kotoko)
He will not be new to Black Stars if given the nod. The enterprising defender was handed a debut call up against Sudan in Ghana, went ahead to make a debut appearance at the Cape Coast Stadium. After that opportunity, Christopher Nettey has gone on to play consistently for his club, Asante Kotoko. At the moment, he is regarded a key member of his club. Black Stars coach continues to harbor admiration for the industrious player. His name is on the radar, hence, he should maintain an irresistible performance as the list is almost completed.
Imoro Ibrahim ( Left-back, Asante Kotoko)
He has proved his readiness to battle for position any where he founds himself. Little was known about him before his swashbuckling volley against Dreams FC at the Theater of Dreams, Dawu. His ability to run on the lines, join attack when necessary and reverse to make interventions are some qualities that have pushed his name on the list. After scoring that screamer against Dreams FC, he has moved on to make an impact for his club. It will be difficult for his name to be eluded from the list.
Habib Mohammed ( Central Defender, Asante Kotoko)
Habib, with time, has become a household name. His leadership at the back has sent a strong notification of his preparedness to play for the national team. Reading games and the movements of strikers, providing a constant shield throughout a match are some hallmarks that made a justification for his inclusion. He is seems as a one of the brightest spot in terms of central defence for Black Stars. He is regarded as player who could provide competition to the players available.
Fatawu Mohammed ( Right-Back, Accra Hearts of Oak)
The defender used to be in serious contention for an invite but his recent stay on the bench almost ruined his chances. He is back in contention and is under monitoring. Fatawu will have to prove beyond doubt as to why he should be picked ahead of the lots. Consistency in the league will make his case justifiable from a sporting point.
