Why Nunes is A Good Option For Chelsea Boss Thomas Tuchel

It has been reported by A Bola that Chelsea are planning a summer transfer for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes. The Blues reportedly have a €45m (plus €5m in bonuses) offer ready to go for the Portuguese midfield star this summer.

Nunes was an integral part of the midfield for Sporting last year, and his play drew attention from Portuguese outlets. In 48 games played for the Portuguese club last year, the 23-year-old contributed four goals and five assists.

As a fantastic midfielder for Sporting, he averaged 1.3 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.6 shots, 0.7 key passes, and 2.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. His passing accuracy from the center of the field, where he had already been at 85.8 percent in league play, was much higher (stats via whoscored).

Nunes has shown he can be a reliable contributor to the defense, both in terms of preventing offensive touchdowns and preventing defensive ones. From midfield, he may provide a critical pass or even make a couple of runs with the ball towards the opponent's half when he spots a gap. The Brazilian-born star can play both defensive and offensive midfield when called upon.

Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Chelsea, will be thrilled to add a player of Nunes' caliber to his roster in order to bolster his midfield options for the upcoming season.

The Blues should keep a watch on Nunes, who will only improve as he gets older, during the offseason. It is possible that the Portuguese phenom will help the West London team close the gap on first-place Manchester City and second-place Liverpool in the Premier League standings. Tuchel should prioritize signing Nunes before the end of August, when the summer transfer market closes.
