Samuel Boadu Vows to Make Up For The Poor Start to The Season

Ghana Premier League holders, Accra Hearts of Oak continued their revival with a second win of the 2021/22 league season.

The Phobians who had come out of a disastrous continental campaign marked by heavy second leg defeats, are looking to quickly redeeming their battered image. Hearts of Oak were kicked out of the 2021/22 CAF Champions League where they took in 10 goals and scored two against Morocco giants, Wydad Athletic Club over the two legs. They sank into the second tier club competition which is the CAF Confederation which also brought home some unpalatable results against Algeria opponents, Jeunesse Sportive de Saoura. The first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium gave the millennium champions an amount of hope when they posted a 2-0 victory. The second leg however ended in a 4-0 defeat kicking them out on a 4-2 aggregate.

The 2001 CAF Super Cup winners shifted focus to the 2021/22 Ghana Premier league where they had drawn three matches and recorded a defeat in four games prior to the CAF Confederation Cup debacle. A 1-0 win over Elmina Sharks in week eight at the Nduom Stadium started a recovery exercise for coach Samuel Boadu and his team. They posted a 2-0 win to calm the nerves of the disappointed fans and coach Samuel Boadu is looking to maintain the standard.

“We were eliminated from Africa and this is the local league that we are in that we have to maintain the standard. “Even though we didn’t start well but we hope and we believe that if we take match after match, Hearts of Oak will come up,” Samuel Boadu told StarTimes. “It happens at [Elmina] Sharks and we are working on it and I believe that it will get to a time that they [players] will all understand the movement and how to put the ball into the net.” Samuel Boadu added.

Hearts of Oak have now got out of the relegation zone with nine points from six games. They have three outstanding games against Berekum Chelsea, Asante Kotoko and Medeama to clear. Victories in those three games will push them closer on points with leaders, Aduana Stars and King Faisal.
