Zimbabwe aim to upset Algeria in next month's AFCON qualifiers

Zimbabwe coach Zdravko Logarusic believes his side are capable of upsetting African champions Algeria when the two nations go head-to-head next month in their AFCON 2022 qualifiers.

Algeria will host Zimbabwe in the first of a double headed encounter on November 12 before heading to southern Africa for the return leg four days later as the two nations seek to book a spot at the next AFCON tournament in Cameroon.

And, Coach Logarusic is plotting to upset the 2019 African champions in the upcoming encounters as he seeks to secure one of the two tickets from the group that also includes Botswana and Zambia.

The Croat said in a recent interview that Algeria are a very good side who will be difficult to play against but, Zimbabwe will not be afraid of them as they have qualities of their own.

The plot he added, will be not to focus on their individual players who he admits are very good and can cause havoc when left loose.

The mantra will be to device a strategy that will contain them on the field of play and limit their opportunities to the minimum in both games as they look to come out a good result from the two games.

Algeria lead the group with six points after wins over Botswana and Zambia; Zimbabwe drew with Botswana and beat Zambia and have four points. Botswana have one point with the Zambians yet to pick a point after two games.
