GPL Week 20: Asante Kotoko Score Five Goals At Home To Stay On Top Of League Table

Asante Kotoko are back to winning ways following a 5:0 hammering of Ghana Premier League newbies Bibiani Gold Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium tonight.  Cameroonian international George Mfegue recorded a quick brace in the first half, while Augustine Agyapong and Frank Etouga added the third and fourth goal respectively for the porcupine warriors. Samuel Boateng had the fifth goal for the home side. After drawing against Accra Hearts of Oak and splitting honors with Bechem United, the league leaders determined to find the back of the net and possibly extend the points gap on the league table. 

Asante Kotoko did not waste time from the blast of the whistle as they created decent chances. Frank Etouga and his countryman George Mfegue got events underway as they made daring moves for goal. Bibiani Gold Stars decided to reduce the tempo of the game but they were found wanting on many occasions. 

Asante Kotoko intensified the search for goal as they took charge of proceedings, manikin it extremely arduous for the Premier League debutant to impose themselves on the game. Minutes after half hour mark, Asante changed the narrative by breaking the deadlock.

Cameroonian George Mfegue reacted quickest to pounce on goalkeeper Ernest Kusi’s loosed grips of an Imoro Ibrahim’s Cross to put the league ladders in the lead.Minutes later, George Mfegue added the second and a personal brace for Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko did not renege despite the two goal lead, as they toon charge of games by controlling balls to end the first half of the game. 

Bibiani Gold Stars - upon the commencement of the second half -  got the game under their dictate but they could not make use of glorious moments that fell their way. The introduction of striker Prince Kwabena Owusu appeared to have worked for the visitor as they compelled Mubarek Yussif and his partner to sit back. Gold Stars managed to breached the defense but could not go beyond goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim. 

Asante Kotoko reorganized and got the third goal via Augustine Agyapong. 

Asante Kotoko continued to pile pressure on Bibiani Gold Stars which culminated in a penalty and bravely converted by Premier League top scorer Frank Etouga. That became his fourteenth goal as the leading goal scorer in the Ghana Premier League. Frank Etouga and George Mfegue have been effective for Asante Kotoko this season, as the duo have raked in twenty goals, with fourteen going for the former and six for the latter.

Samuel Boateng added the fifth goal for Asante Kotoko.

Game ended by five unanswered goals for Asante Kotoko.
