As Accra Hearts of Oak keep preparing for their second preliminary 2021/22 CAF Champions League clash against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco, their eyes will also be set on keeping their players fit for the all important game.
There were several news that some players from the Phobian camp have been injured ahead of the all important first leg clash at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Phobians qualified for the CAF Champions League after the annexation of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League which became their 21 mst and first in as long as 11 years. They beat rivals, Asante Kotoko to the league title with 61 points with Kotoko finishing in second on 57 points at the end of the season.
Accra Hearts of Oak also went ahead to win the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup, beating top opponents like premier league sides, Elmina Sharks and Medeama Sporting to qualify for the finals. The 2000 CAF Champions League winners set up a finals against AshantiGold at the Accra Sports Stadium. The finals travelled the entire duration and the extra time with no goals recorded. Hearts of Oak won 8-7 on penalty shootouts to win a record 11th trophies as against Asante Kotoko’s nine titles.
The Phobians were paired against Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar for the first preliminary game which they made light work of the Guinea club by beating them 2-0 in a leg qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium. The win sets up a second preliminary clash against Morocco club, Wydad Athletic Club over two legs. The first leg comes up at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 17 with the return leg in a week at the Mohammed V Stadium.
There was a reported news in midfielder Emmanuel Nettey getting injured ahead of the clash but there is equally some good news coming from the camp of the Phobians. Emmanuel Nettey is expected to be in action for the Rainbow club against the Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Athletic Club in Sunday.
The defensive midfielder was reported likely to miss the big game against WAC in the upcoming CAF Champions League second preliminary stage. However, Emmanuel Nettey will be in action when Hearts of Oak host the Moroccan side at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday 17th October, 2021. Nettey picked up a minor injury after their first champions league game against Guinea club Club Industriel de Kamsar when they beat them 2-1. Doctors have have given him the go ahead and he has begun training and will be available for selection over the weekend.
A win for the 2000 CAF Champions League winners will increase their qualification to the group stage of the 2021/22 CAF Champions League before traveling for the second tie in Morocco a week later. Hearts of Oak are the most decorated club in Ghana having won the domestic league 21 times and a record 11 FA Cup titles. They have won the CAF Champions League, the CAF Super Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup.
