“I’m Coming For You”: Richard Commey Tells Lomachenko

Boxing will once again sell Ghana globally as it used to when native and former IBF World Champion, Richard Commey faces Ukrainian, Vasiliy Lomachenko on Saturday, December 11.

Commey (30-3, 27 KO) and Lomachenko (15-2, 11 KO) will go head-to-head at the popular Madison Square Garden in New York City with the winner becoming the mandatory challenger to the IBF Lightweight title. Commey, 34 , who lost his IBF title to Teofimo Lopez in 2019, is coming into the fight with a knockout victory against Dominican boxer, Jackson Marinez in February. Loma, 33 , a former unified Lightweight Champions, last defeated Japanese, Masayoshi Nakatani via a TKO in June. Commey has promised a good showdown against the Ukrainian.

“I think losing in boxing is part of boxing and parcel of it. “So regardless of how you lose, it’s all about coming back and whatever happened with Teofimo[Lopez] fight, it is what it is. “I take it as a man and in my mind, I need to come back and I came back very strong and there is a reason why Loma [Vasiliy Lomachenko] chose me and there is a reason why I’m sitting right here. “So it is what it is, Saturday we are going to see,” Richard Commey said. “I’ve got the whole of my country behind me, I’ve got myself and I’ve got all the little children back home [Ghana] who really want to get to where I am and I’m coming and I know it’s not an easy fight but I’m coming.” Richard Commey added.

Commey fought for a world title for the first time in his career in September 2016 against undefeated Robert Easter Jr. but on judges cards with two of them scoring the fight 115–112 and 114–113 in favor of Easter Jr, while the third judge scored the fight 114–113 for Commey, handing Easter Jr the split-decision win. After losing to Robert Easter Jr. for the vacant IBF lightweight title in 2016, Commey defeated Isa Chaniev in 2019 to capture the IBF title in his second attempt which he eventually lost to Lopez.
