Ghana’s Strongest: Bright Appiah feels ‘no pressure’ ahead of his first final.

Bright Appiah, alias SWAT, says he feels ‘no pressure’ and will head into Sunday’s Ghana’s Strongest Champion of Champions final battle-ready to take the title home.

The Western Region-based police officer, in his third attempt, has exceeded expectations by reaching his first final, but is not content with this achievement and has set sights on winning the ultimate.

“I am so excited. Till now, I am excited,” Appiah on making his first final.

However, he wasn’t shy to admit not having a great start, attributing it to over-training which nearly cost him an exit because his performances were below par. “Honestly, speaking this season has been tough. If you noticed, I made a slow start to the competition and things were very difficult for me because I over-trained and barely rested during my preparations, so I was a bit tired when the competition started,” he said.

“My coach noticed my struggles and advised me to rest more, which I did. That contributed to my massive improvement, and propelled me to the final.”

On Sunday, Bright, in order to be crowned strongest man in Ghana, must overcome Damian Smith, Ahmed Boakye and Prosper Dakora.

All three have experience of competing in the final with Smith and Boakye having previously won the title.

Asked whether he feels any pressure coming up against these three men, Bright said: “No pressure at all,” adding that “I will beat all of them”.

He, however, jokingly warned of arresting any of them who commits an offence on the day.
