Liberty Professionals Intensify Pre-Season With Two Top Friendly Games

Liberty Professionals might be relegated from the Ghana Premier League but they are leaving no stone unturned in their bid for a quick return to the top flight next season.

The Scientific Soccer Lads’ 20-year stay in the Ghana Premier League came to an end after the 2020/21 season where they finished second from bottom in an 18-club league. They gathered 40 points in 17th following bottom place, Inter Allies who collected just 26 points and 16th place Ebusua Dwarfs who raked home 41 points to next season’s Division One League. Liberty Professionals after 34 games of the season won 10 matches, drew 10 and lost 14 of them but unfortunately, they could not survive. They needed a last day victory against King Faisal but ended up drawing 1-1 at full time.

The Dansoman based club have two friendly games on Friday, October 22 against Bechem United and newly promoted Division One side, Golden Kicks FC. The first game against Bechem United will come up at the Ajiringanor Astroturf Park at 8:00am with the second duel against Golden Kicks taking place at the Fadama Astroturf at 2:00pm.

These two games are meant to serve as preparatory exercises ahead of the start of the 2021/22 Ghana Division One League [DOL]. Liberty Professionals was once a talent hub that produced quality players for the various national teams of Ghana like the U-17, U-20, U-23 and the Black Stars of Ghana. 

They have produced notable names like Africa’s all time top scorer at the FIFA World Cup and Ghana’s all time top scorer as well as former Black Stars captain. Asamoah Gyan. The have also produced quality players who have played in the UEFA Champions League and several top league championship winners. Some players who have been produced by Liberty Professionals have produced have played in the Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cups. Some players they have produced have equally gone on to become good coaches and are currently in the Ghana Premier League and other lower Divisions.
