Hearts of Oak Pip Gold Stars in a Crunchy Duel

Accra Hearts of Oak have proved too strong for newly promoted side, Gold Stars on Saturday.

The Phobians managed to knick it past the Bibiani based club by a single goal in week 12 of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League. Hearts of Oak were going into the game following a goalless draw against Bechem United in week 11 at the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday. The 21 time Ghana champions played out a fantastic game at the Duns but missing in action were captain, Fatawu Mohammed and burly striker, Kofi Kordzi.

Goalkeeper Richmond Ayi returned into the post after picking an injury against Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday. Robert Addo Sowah also made a return to the central defence to partner Mohammed Alhassan who captained the side. James Sewornu maintained his place in the squad but this time at right back for Fatawu Mohammed.

Hearts of got their goal on the 30th minute when forward, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh dummied his attacker and set up James Sewornu who struck very well to score the Phobians only goal and the eventual winner. The Phobians held on to the slim lead into the break. Back from recess, Hearts of Oak maintained their lead until the final whistle which saw them claim all three points from the Duns Park in week 12. Hearts of Oak have now claimed 17 points from 10 games with two outstanding games against rivals, Asante Kotoko and Medeama to be played at later date.
