The Black Stars beat South Korea, but some still think they can't make the Round of 16.

The black stars of Ghana defeated South Korea in a very heated and emotional battle on Monday 28th November, 2022. The end of the match saw the spirits of many Ghanaians lifted after their disappointing start of the campaign with Portugal. Just for recap purposes, the game against south Korea saw Ghana score two beautiful first half goals from Mohammed Salisu and Kudus Mohammed. These two goals were quickly cancelled by South Koreans in a space of 5 minutes.

This brought serious tension to Ghanaians. I was so fortunate to be at Kwame Nkrumah Circle during this time and i experienced the pain that pierced the hearts of every Ghanaian during that time. However, our redemption came through Mohammed Kudus once again when he scored a very beautiful goal to help Ghana lead the game.

During my short stay at Nkrumah Circle on the match day, i realized so many Ghanaians were a little bit worried about our chances of qualifying to the next stage of the competition. The first reason was with our defensive system and the ease with which we conceded to quick goals and this trickled back to the way we conceded to Portugal in the first game. The major concern is that Uruguay needs a game to win in order to qualify for the next stage of the competition. If the coach does not figure out a way to stop leaking cheap goals at the back, then we might be found wanting with the match with Portugal.

The second worry to me personally in our eagerness to seek revenge. The team would have to understand that we just need to qualify for the next round. Yes! its true, we want to score and revenge for what Uruguay did to us. But if that becomes our primary focus, then we will have a big problem. Ghana can easily defeat Uruguay but the they need to play with their heads and with brilliance not a heavy heart wanting to hurt the opponent. They can easily ride on that and cause us more pain than what we already have in our hearts.

The Black Stars would have to be wary or else the deepest fears of Ghanaians might just come to reality.
