GPL: Nii Odartey Lamptey has been appointed as Elimina Sharks Interim head coach

Nii Odartey Lamptey is a Ghanaian former professional footballer and former assistant manager for Sekondi Eleven Wise.

His early career put forward the foremost erratic career, in which he became a superstar as a teenager and then suffered a long string of failures which burnt him out well before his time. Lamptey has been used as a byword for a cautionary tale of putting too much pressure on young players to be successful.

He also played for Anderlecht, Venezia, Club Atlético Boca Juniors, Unión Santa Fe, Ankaragücü, União Leiria, Greuther Fürth, Shandong Luneng, Al-Nassr, Asante Kotoko and Jomo Cosmos.

Elmina Sharks FC appointed Mr. Lamptey as interim coach after they parted ways with their head coach Yaw Acheampong.

Mr. Lamptey, is expected to take charge of the team’s training with immediate effect.

Since 2017, Acheampong had been at the club but this season a series of bad results in the Ghana Premier League led to Sharks wielding the axe on him and his entire staff in the back room.

In their 17 games this season, the Sharks have won just three games, leaving the club 14th on the table, only 2 points above the relegation zone.

Mr. Lamptey first game will be against Kumasi Asante Kotoko on the 6th of March.
