Asante Kotoko Face RC Kadiogo In 2022/23 CAF Champions League Preliminary Stage

Ghana representative in 2022/23 CAF Champions League Asante Kotoko are set to take on RC Kadiogo of Burkina Faso in the first round of the preliminary stages of the competition. The first leg is scheduled for Burkina Faso with the reverse fixture taking place in Ghana.

Asante Kotoko got the nod to represent Ghana after clinching 2021/22 Ghana Premier League trophy. Winning the league in Ghana guarantees an automatic spot in the CAF Champions League, but they will start from the preliminary stage. The first leg will take place between 9-11 September, 2022 and the second leg comes off between 16-18 September 2022.

Asante Kotoko will leave Kumasi for Accra today to commence preseason for upcoming assignments, including CAF inter club competition and domestic campaign. After touching down in Accra, the club will later complete paperwork and leave for Turkey to continue their offseason activities. They will plays Nigerian club River stars before wrapping up preparations in Turkey.

With some players such as Mudasiru Salifu, Fabio Gama and Imoro Ibrahim leaving the club, the reigning champions are busily working to secure some signatures to replace the departed players. Steven Mukwala has been acquired as other announcements are imminent.

Earlier the Confederation of African Football, CAF, released the list of clubs exempted from the first round of the preliminary stage. The club rankings was based on performance of clubs across Africa from the last four years.
