African Cup of Nations 2021 draw: Ghana and Nigeria gets stronger opponents

Finally, the best 24 countries on the African continent, have been drawn into six groups for the biggest football occasion in Africa.

The draw for the final tournament of the TotalEnergies AFCON, Cameroon 2021 took place in Cameroon capital city Yaoundé on Tuesday 17 August 2021.

The tournament which was supposed to be played on June 2021 had to be rescheduled to January 9, 2022 due to the covid-19 pandemic.

AFCON Groups:

Group A: Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cape Verde

Group B: Senegal, Zimbabwe, Guinea, Malawi

Group C: Morocco, Ghana, Comoros, Gabon

Group D: Nigeria, Egypt, Sudan, Guinea-Bissau

Group E: Algeria, Sierra-leone, Equatorial Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire

Group F: Tunisia, Mali, Mauritius, Gambia

The group stages of the tournament will be played from January 9, 2022 to January 20, 2022. Host nation and five times champions Cameroon will face 2013 runners up Burkina Faso in the open match.

All group stage matches is expected to be played in a period of eleven days. The best 16 teams that will qualify from each group will face each other in the round 16 on January 23-26, 2022.

Quarter-finals matches will be played on January 29 and 30, 2022 with 8 best teams that will qualify from the round 16. The semi-final matches will take of on February 2 and 3, 2022 with the final four teams who will then challenge for Gold, silver and bronze medals.

Five main cities will host the tournament, namely Douala, Yaoundé, Bafoussam, Garoua and the Limbe-buea venue.

Which countries are favourite going into this tournament. Is it the defending champions Algeria, the seven times champions Egypt, the super green eagles of Nigeria or the Ghana black stars.
