The Phobians after winning the 2020/21 league and the FA Cup title automatically won a domestic treble as well as a domestic double for the first time in over a decade. Hearts of Oak will them represent Ghana in the 2021/22 CAF Champions League. They were paired against Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar which was billed for two legs. However the Coup D’Etat in Guinea ensured there would be only one leg set for the Accra Sports Stadium. Hearts of Oak dispatched Club Industriel de Kamsar 2-0 with burly striker, Kofi Kodzi and Salim Adams getting the goals.
Hearts of Oak lost two key players and those are midfielder, Benjamin Afutu and attacking forward, Gladson Awako. The Phobians could not reach an agreement with Benjamin Afutu and he departed for Egypt. Hearts of Oak now want avoid mistakes and have entered into talks with forward, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh to extend his contract. The 2020 CAF U-20 Africa Cup winner has been a key member of the squad and the contract extension will be good news for head coach Samuel Boadu.
