Hearts of Oak’s centenary anniversary trophy is still in Nigeria - Ricangy

For about a decade now and still counting, Accra Hearts of Oak has not won any major trophy including their own centenary trophy won by a team in Nigeria.

The only trophy the team can boast of is the Agyeiwaa Memorial Cup. If this is the current state of the Oak Tree then it is heartbreaking.

Accra Hearts of Oak celebrated their 100 years anniversary in 2011. The Nigerian based club Enugu Rangers came to Ghana to win the trophy.

When speaking to Metro TV, Foster Chinwe said;

“Enugu Rangers we are well prepared, I remember two-three years ago we came to Accra to play Hearts of Oak during their centenary and we beat them 2-1 at the Accra national stadium.”

Unfortunately, the team lost the trophy to their Nigerian opponents. Deliberating on the failure of Accra Hearts of Oak, Richard Acheampong said,

“It is instructive to note that on the 100th anniversary of Hearts of Oak, they bought a trophy to celebrate and as we speak, the trophy is in Nigeria.

“It is something that I have never heard of, that a team’s centenary anniversary trophy is elsewhere. For you to invite a team to win your own trophy is unheard of.

“How can a Board Member like Alhaji Akanbi be happy with this?
