The Phobians exited the two continental club competitions, the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup after a disastrous performance. In the CAF Champions League campaign, they defeated and eliminated Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium in just one leg. The win against the Guinea club set them up with Morocco giants, Wydad Athletic Club in the second playoffs of the competition. The Phobians fought hard to beat them 1-0 in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium before suffering a 6-1 humiliation in Casablanca a week after the first leg.
They went down to the CAF Confederation Cup after the CAF Champions League elimination. They were paired against Algeria club, Jeunesse Sportive de Saoura. Hearts of Oak managed to beat them 2-0 in the first leg playoffs at the Accra Sports Stadium to set up a second leg in Béchar. The Phobians will go and suffer yet another big loss of which it ended 4-0 in Béchar to finish the aggregate at 4-2 for JS SAOURA. Hearts of Oak have equally began the 2021-22 Ghana Premier League on a jerky note. They have played four matches and recorded three draws and one defeat in the process. Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe says the club will be forced to reshuffle the players if they fail to perform.
“I personally was not happy about what I saw and I think if we’re not careful, we will have to revisit 1985 when I was chairman of the club, because the same attitude has started showing up again and I will not hesitate taking that drastic decision,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe warned. “If you are going to be a problem, then we’ll get you out. They must understand that none of them is bigger than Accra Hearts of Oak. We can get a replacement. “I have done it before and I can do it again. If they are not careful, we’ll revisit 1985; some of them were not even born then,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe threatened. Hearts of Oak have three points from four games and will next play Elmina Sharks at the Nduom Stadium on Wednesday, December, 15.
