“I Have Given up on The 2021/22 Ghana League Title” - Hearts Defender

Accra Hearts of Oak have been at their best this term having churned out unimpressive results in the 2021/22 season.

Hearts of Oak were extremely impressive last season under different coaches but were running riot over every club under coach Samuel Boadu. The Phobians won the treble last season ahead of arch rivals, Asante Kotoko who went trophiless. Hearts of Oak won the league with 61 points as against Kotoko’s 57 points last season. The Phobians also extended their FA Cup to 11 after dispatching AshantiGold 8-7 on penalty shootouts to claim the 2021/22 MTN FA Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This season has however hit a snag with the club lying 6th 37 points from 25 games and captain of the side, Fatawu Mohammed says the title is far from reach. “The GPL title is out of sight for now. The points between us and the team at the top are 15 and realistically it would be difficult. “We need to win all our matches for the top teams to lose some. “

“We can’t defend the title, but we would work hard next season to reclaim it,” Fatawu said. Hearts of Oak were held to a 1-1 draw in week 25 against Elmina Sharks at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
