We Weren't Good Enough- Dede Ayew

The captain of the senior national team, Black Stars, André Dede Ayew has spoken frankly about the stature of players and the performance of the entire team in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021) tournament. In his disappointment with the outcome of today's.game, Dede Ayew said the team weren't good enough for the tournament.

This is the hardest truth ever spoken by the captain ever since the tournament began. After losing to Comoros Islands by a goal difference, the captain took the opportunity to confront fans and Ghanaians with what he makes of the team.

He did not mince a word in describing how disappointing his team has been throughout yet hoped that the necessary actions could be taken to cure the senior national team of its failures.

"We weren't good enough. We have a young squad... And this is a wake-up call.for.everyone and if we don't learn from it, I don't know," he spoke with huge disappointment and shame on his face.

His critique of the team made no reference to the exact lapses that had to be worked on. Dede Ayew suffered a red card from the referee in quite a bizarre situation during today's game.

Many sports pundits had concluded that the referee was very harsh with the decision as the Black Stars captain had no ill-intentions of causing any harm. But much of the blame has been on the coach, Milovan Rajevac.

By large, the performance of the team has not been impressive as they only secured a point in three matches played at the group stage.

In the next couple of months, the team will be readying itself for the World Cup qualifiers. Will that be Ghana's redemption for the poor show in the AFCON games?

The scepticism among Ghanaians leaves much to be desired. One big decision the Ghana Football Association will have to address is a possible yet better replacement of the coach. It's become obvious that the choice of Milovan Rajevac is regrettable.

Will there be a call for a foreign coach or will we consider a local one? At the moment, the suggestions had fallen on former Black Stars player, Stephen Appiah.
