UEFA changes champions league venue to Estadio Dragoa

The UEFA champion league final clash between Chelsea and Manchester city venue has been changed from it's original location, the UEFA body communicated late this morning.


UEFA confirmed the venue for the champions league final has been changed from Istanbul, Ataturk Olympic stadium to Porto, Estadio do Dragao due to the UK COVID restriction protocol. Turkey is in the 'red list' zone of UK's for international travel amid the corona virus pandemic, making it a challenge for fans to attend the stadium.


Wembley stadium became an alternative, but the UEFA's request was not able to be accommodated by the UK government because of the increasing number of sponsors, spectators, match officials broadcasters... quarantine rules will exempt their arrangements. It there fore made Porto became the choice for the finals to be hold.

What the UEFA president said;

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: ‘Once again we have turned to our friends in Portugal to help both UEFA and the Champions League and I am, as always, very grateful to the Portuguese football federation and the Portuguese government for agreeing to stage the match at such short notice


. ‘I think we can all agree that we hope never to experience a year like the one we have just endured'.
