Asante Kotoko set to break bank to sign top striker

The 2021/22 Ghana premier league will start later this month and clubs are busy signing players to augment their squad for the upcoming season. Several clubs have made numerous signings, others have maintained their squad with others making strategic signings ahead of next season. Medeama SC have made some good signings from lower tier sides but of good quality. Accra Hearts of Oak have also made some interesting signings with a blend of youth and experience as they are participating in the 2021/22 CAF Champions League. We shall however be talking about Kumasi Asante Kotoko in this piece.

Asante Kotoko have made quite a number of acquisitions with a mixture of young lads and some experienced hands to restructure the club’s squad for the 2021/22 Ghana football season. Kotoko started by acquiring one of the fine youngsters who is a central defender, Augustine Agyapong who is just 17-years. He joined Kotoko from lower tier side, Delsamaco Football Club while attacking midfielder, Clinton Opoku who has attained 18-years, signing from Phar Rangers. Young striker , Samuel Boateng also came in from Future Stars. Asante did not stop there but they went on to snap up young winnger, Isaac Oppong from Bactero Sassana. 

Aside from the young lads brought in by Asante Kotoko, the Porcupine Warriors have also signed some experienced hands to make the squad balanced. Lanky midfielder, Richmond Lamptey joined Asante Kotoko from relegated Inter Allies with central defender, Maxwell Agyemang joining from Wamanafo Mighty Royals. Asante Kotoko made a double signing from Medeama with Richard Boadu, who is a midfielder and right-wing back, Samuel Appiah. The Porcupine Warriors keep combing the transfer market for more players to help head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum rebuild the club.

The record Ghana Premier League holders are set to break the bank to sign a top striker from fellow Ghana Premier League club, Berekum Chelsea. Kotoko need an experienced striker to strengthen their attack for the 2021/22 Ghana football season. The departure of Kwame Poku has created a big void and the Porcupine Warriors must fill the space created by Kwame Poku’s exit to USM Alger of Algeria. Kotoko have shown interest in Stephen Amankonah who himself has said that he will only play for Asante Kotoko and not any other club. AshantiGold tabled a bid for the striker but the striker turned it down with the aim of playing for Asante Kotoko. If the deal goes through, Kotoko will send two of its players plus an additional money to Berekum Chelsea. The deal is currently ongoing.
