In order to promote football sustainability before the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the Ghana Football Association has named Mara, a Pan-African digital finance ecosystem, as an official sponsor of the Black Stars of Ghana.
Mara, Africa's premier digital finance ecosystem, uses block chain technology to empower Africans' aspirations and change the social and economic destiny of African communities, nations, and the continent as a whole. In five years, Mara plans to train one million individuals and have a significant impact on one billion lives by focusing on digital banking, Web3, and block chain education.
Former executives from companies including Amazon, PayPal, Uber, Apple, Multichoice, NBC Universal, Viacom, NVIDIA, Founders Bank, Rappi, and more are members of Mara's executive team. From Coinbase Ventures, Alameda Research (FTX), Distributed Global, TQ Ventures, Day One Ventures, DIGITAL, Nexo, KuCoin Ventures, Huobi Ventures, and almost 100 other investors and angels, the company raised a total of $23M.
The Mara executive team is led by Chi Nnadi, Lucas Llinás Múnera, Dearg OBartuin, Kate Kallot, and Susan Younis.
During a brief ceremony, Selorm Adadevoh, the CEO of MTN Ghana, declared that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had a significant role in securing the $2 million sponsorship agreement.
In order to discuss the sponsorship that we are celebrating today, he added, "Today was made possible, first by a meeting with the Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita, our Senior Vice President for Market, Mr. Ebenezer Asante, and H. E. the President.
H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had a courtesy visit from the MTN Group delegation at his hotel while in New York for the 77th UNGA in September. During their encounter with him, Akufo-Addo asked the delegation of the organization to support the SBlack Stars' World Cup preparations.
Hon. Mustapha Ussif, Minister of Youth and Sports, thanked MTN for investing in sports and recognized their contribution to the growth of sports in his speech.
