Initial reports from talk sports claim that, the Irish right back is to soon to be confirmed officially as spurs player and their second signing of the season.
Jose Mourinho has been keen on acquiring the adventurous full back from wolves and gratefully for him, his pursuits has eventually paid off. For spurs, this purchase is to fortify their defensive set up and also providing alternatives for them when they are on the offensive.
After Mourinho clearly expressing his disbelief about Serge Aurier’s defensive capabilities where he said to him that, “I am afraid of you as a marker. Because you are capable of doing sh*t penalty with VAR. So, I am telling you already, I am afraid of you”. This tells us that with the arrival of the 28-year-old, the future of Aurier as a Spurs right back is looking very bleak.
There are prettier players but few in his position who can impact a game quite so much. Scoring 7 times in all competitions, Doherty has established himself as a very competent full back especially when going forward. His type of play in this position is quite unconventional. He doesn’t just hug the touchline and provides the side with only width; he could also pose himself as an alternative strike partner which he predominantly showcased whiles at wolves with Raul Jimenez.
And it is for this trait that the Portuguese was really desperate for Matt to join his side. For spurs it would be a remedy to their defensive and offensive deficit but for Wolverhampton would be a razor-sharp dagger to their hearts.
