Super Eagles Coach Vows to Beat Tunisia in Round 16

Interim head coach of Nigeria, Augustine Eguavoen has opened up on their round 16 clash against Tunisia in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Super Eagles produced a one hundred percent record in the group stages - winning all three games and topping Group D. The three time African champions have been paired against North African side, Tunisia who finished group F on three points and qualified as one of the third best teams. Eguavoen, who will revert to his position as Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation when Portuguese coach, José Paseiro takes over, spoke to NFF TV.

“Congratulations to our team,we qualified and now it’s clear we are playing against Tunisia which is another North African strong team. “We will continue to work hard like we’ve always done, the same approach, same determination, tactics might differ a little bit. “So we are ready, yesterday [Thursday] we did a little bit of recovery training so today [Friday] we start working on how we shall approach the Tunisia’s game. “They [Tunisia] had ups and downs. The first game ended in a dramatic fashion.

“They lost two penalties, two games as well and yesterday [Thursday] so for them, having qualified for the knockout stage is a different ball game, you know what knock out stage is. “In the round of 16, if you don’t get it, you are off, if you get it you move to the quarter finals and it’s going to be very different. “It’s a good team, technically very good and they are fast as well, typical North African team. “So we will find a way to see how will counter them and make sure we come top at the end of the day.” Augustine Eguavoen told NFF TV.

The Super Eagles won their third AFCON title in 2013 under the guidance of late ex-international, Stephen Keshie. They will face Tunisia at the Roumde Adjia Stadium at 19:00 hours.
