Hearts of Oak and RTU in a financial battle over a top midfielder

When a time comes for a footballer to leave a club several issues happen, ranging from contract expiration, financial issues, agent and club tussle and other issues. Several players globally have encountered such problems and Ghana is not an exception. Currently, Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane is embroiled in some sort of exit battle with his club. He had wanted to join Manchester City but the deal fell through at the eleventh hour with even the player missing training for a couple of days. Argentina great, Lionel Messi’s exit from Barcelona was probably the most protracted departure this season when he left to join Paris Saint-Germain.

In Ghana for instance, some players have felt that it is time they left one club to the other after serving for so many years. Some players equally believe it is time they sought a new advantage or change environment by moving to a new club. One such player is Berekum Chelsea’s Stephen Amankonah who has not hidden his intention to leave his current club to seek a new adventure.

Stephen Amankonah has publicly declared his intention to play for Asante Kotoko and not any other club. Several reports indicated that, AshantiGold tabled a bid for the sharp forward but he turned it down just to become a Porcupine Warrior. It is very likely Stephen Amankonah will leave Berekum Chelsea for Kotoko. If the deal goes through, Kotoko will have to send two of their players to Berekum as part of the deal.

One players whose issue has raised its head is Hearts of Oak’s Manaf Umar. The diminutive midfielder might just leave the Phobians because it looks like he is not in the plans of coach Samuel Boadu. Premier league entrants, Real Tamale United have shown interest in him but his move to the North looks difficult. Hearts of Oak want Manaf Umar to extend his contract by two years and go on loan to Real Tamale United. If that is not possible then Real Tamale United must pay Hearts of Oak GHc 100,000 to sign Manaf Umar permanently.

The player has eight months left on his contract and is not ready to extend his contract. Certainly this is not an easy deal between Hearts of Oak, Real Tamale United and Manaf Umar. Moreover, Manaf Umar has lost his position in the Hearts of Oak set looking at the array of players in the middle. He will want to leave to seek more playing time or rustiness will set in and might his mojo. Manaf as a result of issues with his paper work was not registered for the CAF Champions League and this is a big blow to him having been part of winning the Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup.
