The country is full of surprises, as the same thing has happened to a lot of associations. In a better situation now, it is well positioned and decorated in a sense that all what we want will come to pass if proper checks are being put in place to help continue the approach of tackling some pertinent issues associated with our referees. The referees are also human and entitled to some percentage as their payment and more commissions to come their way. In an initial statement released last week, the referees union warned that its members would boycott events if arrears owed them are not paid. Each referee is entitled to 850 Ghana cedis ($165) per match.
The arrears owed are up to 300,000 cedis ($58,000) at matchday nine of the Ghana Special Competition, according to reports. “We write to inform you that the Referees Association of Ghana after carefully deliberating on your failure to redeem your promise of paying all outstanding officiating fees owed our members before close of April 2019, we decided to call on all our members to suspend handling all football match officiating at all levels and at all league centers from tomorrow, 7th May 2019,” the RAG wrote in a letter to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
When you know the genesis of the problem, you will know how to tackle and how to solve it. There are speculations that referees take bribe but the question is how do they take it? the answer is because they are not paid well,' Debrah.
It will only happen in Ghana Football League when referees can be tag with false stories but they will never do thorough investigation as to if the story is from the right source or not. In most cases, the best relationship between the referees and other association are just a slight gap. It could however, be a good proof to no a lot of bribery incident but what accounted for that. Such questions will make the association not work at all to show that they lack competency but will be reliance not paying the referees. But the referees needs to question and take them up to FIFA. Because in Ghan here, if someone employ you then it looks like they have do you a favor which shouldn't be so. "The FA has made the referees go hungry for so long and that is the reason why they have been taking those things and if we want to do away with it unless the FA sit up.' "FIFA referees in this country take a mere GHC500 including hotel fees, transportation and other things. So the referees under-perform because of lack of support. I will sit down with them to make sure the right things are done." he added. Regional Secretaries of the association, communicating the boycott order cited the inability of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to meet demands made by the referees.
"We regret to inform you that in spite of our efforts to assist the GFA in the smooth running of the 2003 Kinapharma League, the GFA has not, at the time of writing this letter acceded to our requests and proposals," it read. The letter requested for 'strict compliance' by referees on the matter. The major complain of the referees has been their dissatisfaction of the allowances paid them by the GFA as was reported by the GNA Sports three weeks ago.
