The National Science and Maths Quiz keeps getting exciting by the day. The competition is currently at the quarterfinals stage. Already some great houses in the competition like Mfantsipim, Pope John, Prempeh College and defending champions St. Augustine’s have all been eliminated.
Yesterday saw Opoku Ware, Boa Anponsem and Accra Academy advancing to the semifinals of the competition after facing some tense opposition. The surprises did not end yesterday as today saw another major upset.
Today October 3, 2020 witnessed 3 thrilling fixtures as 3 more schools advanced to the semifinals. The first fixture saw Achimota knocking out Prempeh College and Anglican SHS. Many expected this to be very tights and a two horse race between Achimota and Prempeh.
It did not disappoint as both schools showed amazing grit and intelligence. At the end of the contest only 4 points were enough to ensure that Achimota School advanced to the semis with 44 points.
The second contest was expected to be a runaway contest for Pope John SHS as they came up against Keta SHTS and Navrongo SHS. However, things didn’t go well as expected and Keta SHTS pulled a major upset by eliminating Pope John. Even Hon. Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister couldn’t believe his eyes.
Pope John failed to give a good fight as they ended the contest languishing at the bottom with runner away winners Keta SHTS garnering 36. Navrongo SHS followed with 29 points while Pope John only managed a paltry 13 points. This was a contest that saw all schools scoring 0 in the Problem of the Day contest.
The last contest was the most anticipated of the day and it sure lived up to the billing. The contest featured two major giants in the schools of St. Peter's coming up against Adisadel College and Ola SHS, Ho. The competition started with hot exchanges.
However, getting to the end of round 1 St. Peter's pulled clear. Adisadel managed to claw back and give them a good fights round by round as Ola SHS watched the 2 giants batter each other with wonderful display of confidence and skill.
The last round of the contest was the most thrilling ever as it showed glimpses of yesterday's between Accra Academy and St. Augustine. Adisadel won the contest with 49 points with St. Peter's and Ola amassing 47 and 39 points respectively.
Tomorrow the contest continues with thrilling quarterfinals contests. Which school has surprised you so far? Who are you cheering to clinch the coveted trophy?
