AFCON

Ghana Must Cough up to $270,000 to Part With Milovan Rajevac

Ghana will have to cough up to $270,000 to part with head coach, Milovan Rajevac if the West African Nation must sack him.

A release by the Ministry of Youth and Sports earlier on Friday following a meeting with the Ghana FA, expressed displeasure in the Black Stars unimpressive performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nation in Cameroon this year. The meeting between the two parties did not only seek to review the AFCON fiasco but plan for the final 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier set for March. In the said release, the Sports Ministry asked the Ghana FA to “reconstitute the Black Stars Management Committee” and as well “review the work and capacity of the technical team led by Milovan Rajevac.”

Per inference, it looks like the Sports Ministry wants the Serbian trainer relieved of his post but that will amount to settling a backlog of nine months salaries which will amount to $270,000 from a monthly wage of $30,000. The Black Stars simply failed to glitter at the 33rd edition of the tournament after collecting just a point from three group games. Prior to starting their campaign, Ghana lost 3-0 to Algeria in a preparatory exercise at the Education City Stadium in Doha to beging what will later become a horrendous outing. A 1-0 loss to Morocco in the opening game was an alert to Milovan Rajevac side’s visible lack of readiness for the tournament. The four time AFCON winners went on to draw 1-1 against Gabon after taking a lead from captain, Andre Ayew 26 minutes into the second game at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

The Black Stars plunged the entire West African Nation into shock when they lost 3-2 to debutants, Comoros with ten men in the final Group C game. The group stage exit will be the first time since 2006 in Egypt when Ghana got kicked out of the AFCON after the first step. The team must now shift attention to the 2022 FIFA Word Cup qualifier to attempt a fourth appearance after missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia.
