CK Akonnor Sues GFA Over Wrongful Termination Of Contract

Former Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor is reported to have filed a case at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) against the Ghana Football Association for wrongful termination of contract and unpaid salary.

The 47 year old Coach was appointed as head coach for the black stars in January 2020 after a short spell as the assistant coach under Kwesi Appiah. However, his tenure came to a disappointing end after he lost the game against South Africa in September 2021.

In his dismissal, he was blamed for poor performance of the Black Stars after winning just 4 games out of the 10 games he managed. He has since been replaced by Coach Milovan Rejevac who is under huge pressure to win his next games against Ethiopia and South Africa for a place in the 2022 World Cup finals.

According to the report sighted by this portal, CK Akonor’s is demanding close to USD 700,000 as the amount owed him by the Ghana Football Assocation. The report from Ahomka Fm indicates that this amount includes the damages, salary arrears and a signing on fee.

Do you think the GFA terminated CK Akonnor’s contract? Kindly comment and share.
