Let’s Make The Phobia Family Proud in Morocco - Hearts Defender

Accra Hearts of Oak utility player, Caleb Amankwah has charged all to make sure the team wins the second leg CAF Champions League clash against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in Casablanca.

The Phobians will play as guest of the Moroccan club in the reverse fixture of the 2021/22 edition of the continental club competition at the Mohammed V Stadium on October 24. Hearts of Oak managed just a single goal against WAC in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium courtesy Salifu Ibrahim’s assist in the 41st minute poked in by Isaac Mensah. The 21 times Ghana Premier League holders must play above themselves in the return to book a group stage slot and Caleb Amankwah who was an unused substitute wants an all out action in Morocco. He tweeted.

Hearts of Oak need to avoid defeat, record a scoring draw or win to qualify for the group phase. A defeat will see the record Ghana FA Cup holders drop to the second tier competition on the continent, the CAF Confederation Cup.

Hearts of Oak began their 2021/22 CAF Champions League journey with a 2-0 victory over Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar in a one off qualifier. The game was scheduled for two legs but the Coup D’Etat in Guinea made room for the Confederation of Africa Football to apply their rules and regulations which forced a single leg qualifier. Hearts of Oak got their two goals from returnee striker, Kofi Kodzi and young midfielder, SALIM Adams in the first and second half respectively. The victory then set up the clash against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco over two legs with the first already cleared.

Hearts of Oak were crowned champions league winners in the year 2000 when they defeated Esperance 5-2 over two legs. In the year 2001, the millennium champions claimed the coveted CAF Super after beating Zamalek 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium. The Phobians went ahead in 2004 to win the maiden CAF Confederation Cup after beating rivals, Asante Kotoko 8-7 on penalty shootouts at the Baba Yara Stadium. The however lost the Super Cup to Nigeria outfit Enugu Rangers in the finals in Nigeria.

Hearts of Oak have won the Ghana Premier League 21 times with the 21st title coming last season which is the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season. They went on to claim the MTN FA Cup to make a domestic double for the first time in over twenty years and an automatic domestic treble. The feat was also their 11th title and record, two better than rivals, Asante Kotoko who are on nine titles.
