GPL Wrap: Asante Kotoko Stretch Lead On The League Table, Accra Hearts Of Oak Continue To Struggle

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have opened a 6 point lead at the summit of the league table, after beating Medeama by a lone goal at the Baba Yara Stadium today. The porcupine warriors have made their intentions clear to clinch the league trophy as they occupy the peak with 30 points.

Asante Kotoko managed to score one goal against Medeama at home. Cameroon import George Mfegue got the only goal for Asante Kotoko to keep all points. From the start of the game, Asante Kotoko made remarkable moves to get goals but goalkeeper Banji of Medeama maintained his composure to save most of the goal bound shots. He was later adjudged Most Valuable Player of the encounter. Coach Prosper Ogum and his charges have a huge responsibility in ensuring they do not lose the position to some favorite sides. With an outstanding game against Accra Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko will count on getting three points to stretch their lead.

Aduana Stars sit second with 24 points with a game at hand. The Dormaa-based team have tried to keep the heat on Asante Kotoko and will hope to defeat Dreams FC to keep their plans alive.

Accra Hearts of Oak have maintained a position in top ten despite losing by a lone goal to Karela United yesterday at Anyinase. The Phobians kept it cool to end the first half with clean sheet. In the second half, they held the home side deep into stoppage-time but lost focus and conceded. Their ambitions of picking maximum points to stay on course were doused as they traveled back without a point. They share 8th position on the log with Karela United.

West African Football Academy, WAFA, Legon Cities and Elmina Sharks continue to labor on the league ladder. Elmina Sharks are bottom rooted after sharing points at home today. They were held to a goalless draw by Berekum Chelsea and are last on the log. WAFA fought for point against Bechem United but was not enough to salvage their worrying condition. Legon Cities lost to Bibiani Gold Stars and are back in the danger zone.
