Following Ben Chilwell’s long term injury, Chelsea was obviously expected to go in for a left back to serve as a back up for Marcos Alonso. After showing interest in Lucas Digne, Manager Thomas Tuchel along the way decided to pull out of the deal.
According to reports, Thomas Tuchel wanted the player on loan with Ben Chilwell expected to start next season. But Everton didn’t want a loan deal for their player that was why Thomas Tuchel decided to stop pushing for the player .
When Aston Villa entered the negotiations with a permanent offer, it was game over for Chelsea. According to reports, they paid an amount of €27million to Everton before an agreement was reached.
After Aston Villa’s announcement for the left-back, Chelsea wil have to look elsewhere for a left back to complement Marcos Alonso before the transfer window closes on 31st January.
