UEFA Champions League Semi- Finals: These Are Correct Pronunciation Of The Names Of The Players

Over the years, we have been wrongly pronouncing the names of players who plays top flight football in Europe. Players who plays for the top teams in Europe comes from different continents in different continents. This makes it difficult to pronounce their names correctly.

The variations in the alphabets across the world accounts for this. You may see a name and pronounce it the way it's spelt but it's pronounced differently in the country of origin of that name. For example, we all know that the name J-E-S-U-S is pronounced Jesus like the one in the Bible but when you go to Brazil, it's pronounced differently from this.

Since we are in the UEFA Champions League seasons (Semi-finals), I'm going to give you the correct pronunciation of some of the names in the various teams which includes Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester City.


Thiago Silva = Chee - ah - go.

Hakim Ziyech = Zee - yesh.

Christian Pulisic = Police - sick.

Ngolo Kante = Con - tay.


Kevin De Bruyne = De Bruner.

Gabriel Jesus = Jay - Zooss.

João Cancelo = Joo - wow Can - say - lo.

Aymeric Laporte = Emerick.

Ikay Gundogan = Eel - kye Gun - doe - wan.

PSG (Pah - ree - San - Jer - man)

Layvin Kurzawa = Lay - van Kur - java.

Idrissa Gueye = Gway.

REAL MADRID (Ray - al Ma - dreed)

Dani Carvajal = Carva - hal.

Eden Hazard = Ay - den.

Toni Kroos = Crowss

Football fans and pundits especially in Ghana have been pronouncing these names above wrongly. It is not their fault because we were taught the Queen's language in school.
