Ghanaian Midfielder Sulley Muntari has recently expressed his eagerness to return to the Black Stars and assist the team ahead of the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Sulley Muntari has not played for the Black Stars since 2014. He has spent the 2021/2022 season in Ghana, assisting the Hearts of Oak to win the MTN Football Association Cup.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in past confirmed that Sulley Muntari was sacked from camp during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil for an unprovoked assault on then-Black Stars management Moses Armah. The punishment for the physical attack was an indefinite ban to join the team.
Sulley Muntari however, apologized somewhere in 2016 but has not yet been invited back to the camp. In a recent interview on GTV, Sulley Muntari revealed that even if he is on crutches today and the Black Stars call him to come and help, he'll definitely run and go.
He also said that even if he can’t play, he'll sit and contribute to the team's success. Sulley Muntari has up to date been one of Ghana’s best players. He has a record of assisting the Black Stars team to qualify for three consecutive World Cups between 2006 and 2014.
Many Ghanaians have asked the current Ghanaian coach to do everything possible to bring back the experienced Black Stars players like Sulley Muntari himself.
