Barcelona's season opener against Rayo Vallecano is this Saturday at 21:00 (local time), and the club's ability to register their new signings in time is becoming increasingly unlikely.
With less than 48 hours until kickoff, the response from LaLiga, which must review everything in detail, may not arrive in time if the Blaugrana have not engaged the fourth economic lever or supplied any evidence.
If Barcelona wants to take a chance, they can pull the trigger on Friday morning.
In order for Barcelona to officially register some of the signings, the fourth lever had to be pulled. There would then be a decision to be made by the club.
In addition to the fourth lever, lowering the salary bill (via, for instance, releasing Memphis Depay or cutting the salaries of Busquets and Pique) would allow the club to register all of its players.
Even though the club has a very limited amount of time to register the additions, they will not be able to do so without that fourth lever.
Conundrum for Xavi
The club has just instructed Xavi to incorporate the new signings into his preparations for the opening LaLiga game against Rayo; yet, the coach may be forced to fall back on players like Depay (who is on his way out of the club) or Aubameyang. Also, Pique might be an asset on the defense.
Xavi requires assistance both on and off the field, since the coach may have to conduct a press conference on Friday without knowing whether or not he can count on the new recruits.
