Messi missed Chelsea good deal. Wants Barca return

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea "seriously tried" to get Lionel Messi from Barcelona in 2014, but the Argentine declined to transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Romano asserts When Jose Mourinho was in his second tenure as Chelsea manager, Roman Abramovich was desperate to sign Messi.

Messi, on the other hand, would not leave Barcelona, and Chelsea instead decided to sign former Arsenal player Cesc Fabregas from the Catalan club.

With the Blues, the Spaniard would go on to win five major titles, including two Premier League titles.

While analyzing the top five transfer deals that failed at Chelsea during Abramovich's ownership of the club, Romano shared the story on his YouTube channel.

"It wasn't close, but with Jose Mourinho as manager, Chelsea were really attempting to recruit Lionel Messi in 2014," Romano remarked.

Leo Messi was a target for Roman Abramovich. He was serious about signing Messi as Chelsea's new star, but the transaction fell through."

Messi stayed with Barcelona until last summer, when he signed a free move with Paris Saint-Germain.

This season, he has made 24 appearances for the French club, scoring seven goals.

Now, Messi wants to go back to Barcelona.
