Amponsah, who contested in the 2019 Ghana Football Association (GFA) elections and placed third out of six candidates was outdoorded by Board of Directors of Asante Kotoko on a Friday, 7th of August, 2021 at Sports Hotel in Kumasi.

Mr. Genfi a Member of the Board of Kotoko in an interview to Accra based Rainbow Radio disclosed that, "I congratulate our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nana Yaw Amponsah for a great so far for Asante Kotoko, we are considering allowing him to continue beyond his tenure, the team is playing well and I pray we win the league title."
NYA's men will welcome Dreams FC at their famous Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the second round of the season begins at the end of the weekend.
