We Are Very Happy to Capture Former Asante Kotoko Defender - Ignatius

The clock is ticking very fast for clubs ahead of the start of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

The various clubs are therefore leaving no stone unturned regarding the signings to augment their squad ahead of the new season. The busiest club in Ghana will be last season’s runners up, Asante Kotoko who have managed to acquire over 14 players to refill the void created by players who have left the club. Hearts of Oak who are defending league champions have equally purchased some players with a mixture youngsters and experienced ones to strengthen the squad for next season’s domestic football. One of the clubs which has been a contender for the league title is Medeama Sporting Club.

The two time GHANA FA Cup holders have expressed their delight in announcing the capture of highly rated defender Samuel Frimpong. The capture will see the top defender stay at the club until October 2023, that is a two year deal. Samuel Frimpong who 24-years-old inked the contract on Friday after completing necessary formalities and passing his medical examination. The highly rated right-back joins the Mauve and Yellow as a free agent player after ending his contract at Ghana giants, Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

According to a release by Medeama SC, Frimpong will become the final signing for the club before the start of the new season this month. Frimpong played a few games for Kumasi Kotoko in the 2020/21 league season and had short loan spell at fellow premier league club, Karela United.

In an interview with the club’s website, Samuel Frimpong said: “Medeama is one of the biggest clubs in Ghana and the chance to join them is something I couldn’t turn down. “I am very happy to join the group and look forward to meeting my teammates to get started. Having spoken to the coach, I am convinced this is the right place for me to continue with my career. “I want to make an impact here and I will give everything to become part of this fantastic club’s history.” 

Head coach of the club, Ignatius Kwame Osei Fosu was not left out of the picture and he added: “I am absolutely thrilled that we have managed to secure the services of Samuel Frimpong. “He is an exciting player and will add his immense skill set and leadership qualities to the group. “He is a player with top-level attributes that I know will help this team a lot. “We are happy to have him with us and we can’t wait to get started.”
