FC Barcelona won their first two Spanish La Liga games under Xavi to climb few levels up on the league table. Another test was put before Xavi as FC Barcelona had to play against Real Betis. Real Betis gave FC Barcelona a very tough game. FC Barcelona fought but could not secure a single point from the game.
Real Madrid who played later had no problem dispatching opponents, Real Sociedad. Real Madrid added 3 points to their already accumulated points this season. Real Madrid's victory cemented their position at the top and put them 8 points clear of 2nd placed Sevilla, 10 points clear of Atletico Madrid and 16 points clear of FC Barcelona.
