1. He once walked out on the Pope
Did you know the legendary Maradona once did what most believe is unthinkable? He once walked out of the Vetican city in a meeting with the Pope John Paul II. He left after he heard the pope saying the Roman Catholics love poor children. Maradona who felt was an insult walked out of the meeting in anger. This was simply because he saw some of the ceilings at the Vatican plaited in pure gold.
In an interview the legend said " I was at the Vatican and I saw these gold ceilings. And I heard the Pope say the church was worried about poor children? Sell the ceilings then mate! The football legend said in anger. He even lost his faith after witnessing this event.
2. The most fouls in a single match
Just like Lionel Messsi, Diego Maradonna was very unique when it comes to dribbling. Because of this, he often faced injuries from his opponents. Infact in a match between Argentina and Italy in 1982, Maradona was fouled 23 times by his opponents in that single match.
In 1986, was also fouled 53 times fouls in the Mexico world cup.
3. He was once a television host
Aside football, Diego Maradonna was into many activities. He hosted his own show named " La Nochie Del 10" in 2006. The show hosted the likes of Mike Tyson, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Iniesta and many global icons. Surprisingly, his first guest at the opening of the show was his biggest football rival, Pele. This came as a suprise as many knew them to be rivals not only in football but even in real life.
4. The church of Maradonna
Did you know there is a religion where Diego Maradinna is worshipped? I'm talking about the church of Maradonna based in Argentina. The church which was established in the late 1990's has over 500, 000 followers across the globe. They see Diego Mardaonna as their saviour and and his works as their principles.
5. He helped Lionel Messi develop his free kick ability
Lionel Messi is undoubtedly one of the best free kick takers in the world. The player has scored numerous and miraculous goals through free kicks. If you are a Barca or Argentina fan, you must be grateful to the late Maradona. Maradonna who was the coach of The Argentine National team in the 2010 world cup helped shape Lionel Messi's free kick ability after realizing he wasn't good at taking free kicks.
