Real Tamale United will escape relegation this season - Coach Shaibu Tanko

Real Tamale United, RTU has assured that they will escape relegation at the end of this season, according to head coach Shaibu Tanko.

The gaffer made this emphatic statement after seeing his side defeat leaders Asante Kotoko in the ongoing Ghana Premier League, GPL last Sunday.

RTU won this GPL Matchday 25 encounter 2-1 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale for their seventh win of the campaign on their return to the Ghanaian top-flight.

The Pride of the North are just outside the relegation zone in 15th position level on 28 points with Techiman Eleven Wonders but ahead of them on goal difference.

Coach Tanko said: "We will definitely avoid relegation at the end of the campaign, but, what we need is fair officiating in our away games".

RTU has not been happy with some of the officiating in their away matches and, they have failed to pick up a win on the road in this 2021-22 campaign.

The win over Asante Kotoko was a welcome one for RTU who were returning to their favourite Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium after playing a couple of home games away from the venue after a section of their fans rioted after their encounter with Aduana FC, prompting the Ghana Football Association to ban them from playing there.

Coach Tanko and his charges will hope to build on this performance going forward with nine matches to end the campaign.

They will need to win all of their remaining home games and, pick up a couple more on the road to stay up at the end of this season.

RTU will next play bottom side Elmina Sharks in an away encounter at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina on Sunday in a GPL Matchday 26 encounter.
