The Ministry of Youth and Sports has described as abysmal, the performance of the Senior national men's football team, the Blackstars, at the ongoing 2021 African Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon. Ghanaians have been expressing their disappointments with the team after they crashed out of the tournament following a 3 - 2 defeat at the hands of minnows, Comoros and the Sports Ministry say they share in the sentiments especially after Government went all out to provide the financial and logistical support to ensure the team's success at the tournament.
In a statement signed by sector minister, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, the Ghana Football Association and leadership have thus been summoned to an emergency meeting scheduled for Friday January 21, 2022, to explain the failures and to outline measures put in place to ensure such mediocre performance do not happen anymore.
The Sports Minister said his outfit is committed to taking urgent steps to ensure that the status of the Blackstars as a symbol of national pride for Ghanaians and powerhouse in football is restored.
