At a ceremony in Kumasi yesterday, Sunday, 12th June 2022, Asante Kotoko was officially declared Ghana Premier League champions for the year 2021/2022. The Porcupine Warriors won their final home game 3-0 against the Elmina Sharks at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The newly crowned GPL champions will compete in the CAF Champions League next season.
However, how the Ghana Premier League was presented to them has become a talk in town. Sources indicate that the trophy was presented to the team in a tricycle which is locally called aboboyaa. This has become one of the worst ceremonies as many Ghanaians descend on the organizers for such a poor Ghana Premier League ceremony.
Mostly, it is a decorated horse or car that they used for such a ceremony. However, one cannot tell what happened this year. Looking at the image below, you can see that aboboyaa has been designed in Asante Kotoko colors with the Ghana Premier League inside and it is about to be presented to the team.
Some Ghanaians even suggested that they should have even gotten a beautiful kid to carry the trophy in a palanquin and present it to the team. According to them, this is one of the worst football ceremonies they have ever come across.
