Wydad Athletic Club Will Fall In The Second Leg - Salifu Ibrahim

Accra Hearts of Oak fans would have wanted more goals in the game against Wydad Athletic Club at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Hearts of Oak hosted Morocco giants, Wydad Athletic Club in the second preliminary CAF Champions League qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. The Phobians managed just to beat the Moroccan club by 1-0 in the first leg of the second preliminary round clash. The Phobians needed more goals in the first leg so that in the second leg which comes off at the Mohammed V Stadium in Rabat in the next one week could be an easier task. However, they managed just a goal in the first leg.

It was not an easy task in Accra as they 2000 CAF Champions League winners looked for goals but they would not come as expected. Hearts of Oak created a few chances but striker, Kofi Kodzi and mercurial midfielder, Salifu Ibrahim could not convert those begging chances. The Moroccan club also threatened the goal area of Hearts of Oak but they could also not bury their chances leaving the game barren until the latter part of the first half.

Hearts of Oak found the net on the 41st minute when Ibrahim Salifu’s beautiful long cross from the left hand side of attack was squeezed into the net moving into the first half break. The score line remained the same until full time where the Phobians will go into the second leg with 1-9 advantage. Hearts of Oak midfielder, Salifu Ibrahim admits the score line was not what they expected but they will work until qualification to the group stage is achieved. He tweeted.

Hearts of Oak qualified for the 2021/22 CAF Champions League after winning the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League. They were paired against Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar for the first preliminary game over two legs. The Coup D’Etat in Guinea however CAF forced the game to be played over one leg at the Accra Sports Stadium which Hearts of Oak won by 2-0. Striker Kofi Kodzi scored a free kick in the first half before midfielder, Salim Adams fired from a long range to give Hearts of Oak the victory and qualification to the next stage of the qualifiers. Hearts of Oak will now face Morocco giants, Wydad Athletic Club for the second round preliminary game second leg at the Mohammed V Stadium in Rabat.
