Gladson Awako Wants to Return to Great Olympics - Annor Walker

Head coach of Accra Great Olympics, Annor Walker has said that former club captain, Gladson Awako was not happy crossing carpet to join regional rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak.

The 30-year- old switched camp from the “Wonder Club” to the Phobians in a 2-year deal following the expiration of his contract at the end of last season. Awako, having been the eye of the two times Ghana Premier League holders last term and with much experience in domestic and continental football, the millennium champions saw him as a perfect tonic to help their 2021/22 CAF Champions League campaign. However, the diminutive forward would go awol from the Rainbow club just a little over a month of joining them, missing the first preliminary CAF Champions League clash against Guinea side, Club Industriel de Kamsar in Accra.

Annor Walker, who transformed the former Berekum Chelsea man after his return to Ghana is itching to have him back at Great Olympics for next season’s league. “Honestly am worried for him, because he is my son and I made him who he is today so it is my wish that, management of Great Olympics will return the money and let Awako return to the club. “He informed me that, he is not happy moving to Hearts and he is not ready to play for Hearts and he wished he is with me and am doing my best to convince management to accept the money and let my former captain return and play for me again.” He told Omy tv.

Gladson Awako played for former Ghana Premier League winners, Berekum Chelsea and later moved to Congolese giants, TP Mazembe in 2013. He was sent on loan to fellow Congo club, Don Bosco for more playing time before returning after his loan spell. He left TP Mazembe in 2017 and had a brief stint with USL club, Phoenix Risings in 2018. He returned to Ghana after his short spell with Phoenix Risings to sign for Accra Great Olympics where he shone brightly in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League before a move to Hearts of Oak. The Ghana Premier League transfer closes on Friday 23rd October with Awako likely to play for Accra Great Olympics barring any any unforeseen last minute hiccup. Hearts of Oak are bent on making an impact in the CAF Champions and have the men to do that if Gladson Awako refuses to be part of the squad.
