Seven Local Players Get Black Stars Call Up Under Milovan Rajevac - Reports

As part of preparations for upcoming World Cup qualifiers in October, Black Stars head coach Milovan Rajevac is expected to name his squad today or tomorrow. According to reports in the local media seven players from the Ghana Premier League could be included in Milovan Rajevac’s maiden Black Stars call up.

The seven players, as indicated by the reports, will be picked from the four main departments, that is, goalkeeping, defence, midfield and attack.

With goalkeepers, Richard Attah of Accra Hearts of Oak is in line to earn another invitation into the Senior National team. On the local scene presently, he is the most active goalkeeper due his team’s involvement in CAF inter club competition. The former Elmina Sharks goalkeeper - last week Sunday - was in full action for his team when they eliminated Guinean opponent CI Kamsar. His performance was vital in keeping his team in the competition. He made a last minute save in the closing stages of first half, which could have changed the narrative of the game.

In defence, Fatawu Mohammed, Abdul Ganiu Ismael and Mohammed Alhassan could be named. Fatawu Mohammed and Mohammed Alhassan have consistently remained key players for Ghanaian champions Accra Hearts of Oak. Fatawu Mohammed had an opportunity to represent Ghana in the defeat to South Africa this month. He could be offered another chance to prove himself under the new coach. Abdul Ganiu Ismael proved his worth when he debuted under Charles Akonnor. He has since then emerged as one of the players that could take charge of Ghana’s central defence. Mohammed Alhassan has been a reliable man for his club, hence looks favorite for an invite.

Black Satellites star performer Fatawu Issahaku has been earmarked for a call-up according to the reports. As a budding talent, he is seen as an asset for the Senior National team and must be given enough exposure. The best player from the domestic league, Salifu Ibrahim, is also racing for inclusion into the squad. His output last season is making a compelling point for his invitation.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh will be picked from attack. The Black Satellites skipper has been in a blistering form for Accra Hearts of Oak. He had a sharp turn in his club career after leading his colleagues to lift Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania this year. The enterprising attacker was in the squad for Ethiopia and South Africa fixtures but could not command a starting role.
