As part of the preparations towards the world cup in Qatar, the Ghana Football Association is in talks with their friends in Japan for a possible participation in a 4-team tournament. The Black Stars of Ghana are expected to put up a good performance at the world cup and they will need to test their strength in high profile matches. Ghana is placed in group H with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
Some analysts have tipped Portugal and Uruguay to qualify ahead of the Black Stars and South Korea from the group. Ghana has played both Portugal and Uruguay at the world cup and they have defeated Ghana. It is fresh in the minds of a lot of Ghanaians when we mention Luis Suarez’s incident in the 2010 world cup in South Africa.
In 2006, Ghana qualified ahead of Czech Republic who ranked 2nd best team in the world. If Ghana is to repeat that, then a lot of preparation will have to go into it. This 4-team tournament will give the chance to assess the players and also help the technical team know the players better.
