Barca declares Ronald Koeman as their new manager

F.C. Barcelona unveiled today their new manager Ronald Koeman. This was followed by the sacking of their formal coach Quique Setien after they bowed out of the UEFA Champion’s League by the attacking machine of Bayern Munich last Friday.

Their new coach was announced earlier today. This proceeded to his first press conference with the media. Ronald Koeman will have full power to work with the current squad. Thus, his decision to determine who to leave and who stays.

The Dutchman paid in his own pocket to terminate his contract with Dutch Football Association. He will arrived with Henrik Larsson and Alfred Schreuder as an assistant.

Some of his statements during his first meeting with the press include:

"Everything has gone very fast and we are working and talking about decisions that we have to make but I will not name names regarding the players."

"I only want to work with people who want to be here, if they are not happy here let them say so. I want people who are going to give everything for Barça."

"I'm not talking about players who are not here, the first thing is to look at the players I have here. Van de Beek? He's very good, I know, but there are many more."

"The image of 2-8 is not what we want, it was a sad day"

"Coutinho? He is a Barça player and if we have to make decisions, we will make them. I have time to get to know the young people out there better."

"It is time to give young people opportunities, the Dutch have no doubt about putting young people when they deserve it. Not only young people, you have to have balance, the team has to change by putting more identity."

"It is not a revolution, we must seek the best for the club and if that implies changes, we will make changes. But we will do so by talking to the players. We are clear that what we saw against Bayern is not the Barça that we will see, we want a very different image."

It is time to play youngsters who are deserving. We need to play with more intensity

"If I succeed here, maybe the next president will think twice before changing me."

"Like all cules, I was disappointed after the loss against Bayern, but now there will be different outcomes."

Elsewhere, the Sporting director, Eric Abidal has stepped down following a strong and humiliating defeat to Bayern Munich last Friday.
