The Future Of Black Satellites Players In Black Stars

A conscious effort ought to be put in place for the purpose of integrating Black Satellites players into the senior national team. Coach C. K. Akonnor has a huge decision to make in few months to come.

Background

After winning 2009 U-20 Afcon and World Cup, core of the team was integrated into the senior team consciously. They were given enough confidence and exposure by way of earning invitations and playing regularly. This resulted in a smooth transition and the benefits were stupendous.

Dede Ayew, Emmanuel Agyemang and the rest of the players from that batch, in few years, took control of Black Stars, capped with an Afcon final appearance, only to be denied the ultimate by penalties.

After a decade, some of the 2009 squad members are relevant in the national team. Presently, Black Stars is captained by the skipper for that squad.

Efforts made to infuse them into Black Stars turned out to be impeccable strategy worthy of mention and imitation in future occurrences.

Now, Ghana is presented with similar scenario and history has to be the bedrock for any decision to be taken.

The future of Black Satellites Players

After annexing the trophy, there will be the need for a well thought through plan for the youngsters. Some of these players could be gradually introduced into the main team, by way of regular call ups and monitoring of performance at the club level.

At the just ended tournament, some players showed a clear intent of career progress.

Percious Boah, Danlad Ibrahim, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Patrick Mensah, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh et al.

Core or chunk of the team should be given specific attention, guide their development for a takeover of the national team.

The aforementioned players should be given room to quickly make a way into the national team, play if chances come and they will be soon over the country.

The inability to make judicious use of the budding players could haunt the country in an attempt to replace the current crop of players.

This is a test for Black Stars coach, and is only a matter of time that will prove whether he passed it or just performed below.
